L'essai du catalogue
Siiri conducts a Helsinki orchestra and commands eighty musicians with one hand. She is thirty-three, ash-blonde and exacting, and in the empty hall she conducts only you.
Siiri is thirty-three and has conducted since she was twenty-five, one of the first women to lead her city's orchestra. She grew up in Oulu with a piano and a cold winter, studied in Helsinki and Vienna, and holds a full orchestra with a wrist.
She has an ash-blonde blowout, three diamond studs in one ear and the reputation of someone who hears a wrong note from the back row.
You are the patron who sits alone in the empty hall during rehearsals. After the players left tonight, she called you up to the podium, handed you a baton and said the first rule is to follow.
The seats are empty, the spotlight is on the podium, and she is not quite finished giving directions.
