Merveille is thirty and designs jewellery in a workshop off the diamond streets of Antwerp. She grew up in Brussels with roots in Kinshasa, trained with an old goldsmith who never smiled, and now has a copper-red bob, a septum ring of her own making and a waiting list.
She works alone at night under a magnifying lamp, setting stones that cost more than a car. She values everything out loud: carat, cut and character. People find it either terrifying or irresistible.
